Why So Many Papers?

Coming to this technology based school for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, I had no idea that there was going to be so many writing assignments. I thought that this program was going to focus more on the hands-on aspects of nursing instead of writing endless amounts of papers. I do not mind writing papers but I would prefer doing something that will benefit me in my future career. I guess for the odd time that a nurse may have to write a paper in the future, I will be well prepared. I have found that applying the skills that we have learned in class to be more beneficial then writing a paper about these skills. The old saying that “practice makes perfect” is a good way to say that first year nursing students should have more time spent in the simulation labs practicing their skills needed for clinical. Sure, I understand that there is a lot of documentation involved in nursing, but writing a lengthy paper hardly helps with that. Maybe in the future when the program coordinators are looking at ways to improve the course they could allow students more class time to practice the skills they have learned within the simulation lab.
